Located in the heart of the Peruvian Andes in Huancavelica, Recuperada was one of Buenaventura’s historic mines, acquired by its founder Alberto Benavides in the 1950s. Up until 2014, Recuperada produced silver, lead and zinc at a processing rate of 400 tonnes per day (tpd).
In 2016, the Latitude team identified an opportunity to develop this asset in conjunction with the consolidation of a strong land position in the district. In Q3 2017, the company closed a deal with Buenaventura for the acquisition of the Recuperada mine and the 600 tpd fully-permitted processing plant; immediately following this, it acquired a 6,500-ha resource-rich land package from Pan American Silver.
Following a vision that 1+1 must be more than 2, Latitude has been moving quickly in this historic mining district, and by mid-2019 it had expanded its footprint to 15,000 hectares and filed a 43-101 report containing more than 7 million tonnes of resources.
More importantly, in early 2019 the Nueva Recuperada site restarted production and made its first sale of concentrates, providing cash-flow to fund exploration and development efforts that will allow for near-term increased mineral output and plant expansions.
